We not only recall the glorious past of this nauha khan family of the valley but also bear in our minds the need to work for their resplendent future. The Beigh family is our splended heritage and all of us should work for preserving their literary work contribution and add to their excellence. As is well known, all of its writers have acquired their respective positions in the society as well as in the government administration. There are some write-ups that figures in this special issue which record the experiences and cherished memories of the Beigh writers. We value their views and sentiments and great fully acknowledge their contribution.
The sole motive behind this live publication is to develop the habit of self-analysis among the new generation nauha writers and to improve upon them the desirability of availing themselves of the opportunity the Nauha Room of Beighs provides for expressing sentiments about battle of Karbala. It is heartening to see the response from new generation writers in form of vocal or literary work. This Blog also evoked a goal responce from nauha writers community who put up their talent to find space in this blog. Actually, they all were inspired from the nauha writers of Beigh family.

The journey of openly writing and reciting of nauhas around the greenery of paradise 'Kashmir' beginned in the starting 19TH century. It was started by many nauha writers at a time but the Mirza Mehdi Beigh won the Noha recitation rivalry with oppositions. His nauhas were totally different from others. Their duo language combination, their classical sad tunes attracted shias of valley, and the people forced Beighs now to recite their nauhas as well. Classical nauha founder came to be known as 'Mirza Mehdi Beigh'. He has written nearly 200 nauhas but chanted few of them. Many of his nauhas were lost because of religious turmoil in Sonawar as Mirza Beigh family was the only one shia family living in sonwar srinagar. This was a biggest reason of their migration from Sonwar to Nowpora, despite being, care takers of 'Sonwar Shrine' . Some of the popular nauhas written by him include the famous nauhas of kashmir .'ye chu zuljanaye syede shuhda, laaqam retith wades dukhtarey shah' (the first nauha for zuljanah, still recited in valley) ; 'wa muhammada gov shaheed hussain, wa museebata chu bekhata hussain' and the most popular 'ae gul e gulzar ali akbaram, safdarey jaraar ali akbaram' was a combinated nauha both in kashmiri and persian language, later edited by his grandson. Beigh Family also used to write specially for grand processions. Mehdi Beigh died on 21 dec. 1975. And is buried in 'Baba Mazar' (ancestral graveyard) zadibal.

His elder son 'Mirza Sakhi Wilayat BEIGH' or sometimes called Mirza Abdul Ghani Beigh was a brilliant writer & recitor as well. Who wrote about one hundred nauhas and recited few of them, because of his short span of life. He perfected the art of Nauha writing. He also composed salams. Some of his popular nauhas were. 'az chu gamgeen muslimo rahmatan lil alameen' ; 'doun alaman azz chu barpa choun matam ya hussain , ta qayamat zind thowuth din e islam ya hussain' ; 'bazahir mityomut chu naame yazeed magar wun che mojood yazidin mureed, matam yem manan karun chu fuzool, Alloh o akbar Sibte rasool' . This was the only Nauha strongly condemned by opposed sectarians. Many Nauha Khwans were inspired by him. It was a routine among Shias in kashmir, that whenever there would be an islamic religious ceremony or commemoration of scions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Mirza Abdul Ghani Beigh was always invited. He was also invited by "Embassy Of Iran In India" ; "Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar" ; "All India Radio" . His pioneering work also received many awards. He died due to Lymphoma in 1988, and left thousands of his well wishers lamenting.
Mehdi Beigh's youger Son 'Mirza Mohammad Ishaq Beigh' is also an extraordinary nauha chanter cum writer who has written many nauhas and has also chanted them. Ishaq Beighs was considered the extraordinary elegy chanter in Kashmir whose voice was very impressive and could be distinguisged from hundreds of voices. Ishaq Beigh has remained most charming chanter of the family who was always requested to chant in regional grand processions to delight the environment of contingents.Unfortuneately, in 2008 he became victim of pulmoanry disease and was unable to recite the nohas openly in processions.
Abdul Gani Beigh's son 'Mirza Manzoor Hussain Beigh' is writting and reciting nauha's from 1980s. He has also written more than one hundred of nauhas and is reciting his and his ancestral nauhas. His popular nauha is. 'ami loukchar mate martam che khat kartam sheerkhaar asgaro' . In Major Ashura processions of 1980's from central heart of J&K state (abi guzar-zadi bal) these all nauha khans were the main characters. Manzoor Hussain Beigh's lyrics have been used by other nauha khans of state many times. Several times his nauhas have been telecasted & broadcasted from PBBCI.
Mirza Mohammad Ishaq Beigh's elder son Mirza Aijaz Hussain Beigh also got involve in the family nauha recitation. Although he is not a writer but every year he delivers his best in Ashura Commemorations. Some of the nauhas recited by him, have also been telecasted state wide, and nation wide.
